For e.g. if we set a thermostat on a cooling equipment such as air conditioner at 75 F, the air conditioner will run only when the temperature rises above 75 F in order to bring the temperature back to 75 F. But by sealing and insulating the envelope or shell of our home, we make sure that minimum amount of heat enters the home and there are fewer instances in which the temperature rises above 20 F. In addition, sealing and insulation is often done with materials that have good heat absorption qualities.
Many of us often assume that closing doors and windows is all that is required to keep the heat out in summer or the cold in winter. But we forget that the openings under the doors in the ceilings, windows, and floors may appear small individually but together they make a huge difference which is why we should take steps to seal them as well. By sealing the openings, we will not only reduce the operating time of the temperature-controlling equipments but also make sure that the temperature doesn’t change quickly after the equipments have been shut off.
